Mu Alpha Theta is an organization whose purpose is to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing public recognition of superior mathematical scholarships and by promoting various mathematical activities. Colleges and major universities recognize high school membership in Mu Alpha Theta as a significant part of a student's academic record.

The Mu Alpha Theta National High School and Junior College Mathematics Club was formed to engender keener interest in mathematics, to develop sound scholarship in the subject and promote enjoyment of mathematics among high school and junior college students. The topics presented in the mathematics clubs and the interest generated therein aid the student in his or her college mathematics courses.

Mu Alpha Theta is co-sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
